Organised by Professors Matthias Epple (Faculty of Chemistry, University of Duisburg-Essen – UDE) and Cristiano Oliveira (Institute of Physics, University of São Paulo – USP), the WorkNano 2026 workshop registered more than 70 participants, both in person and online, from Brazil, Germany and Argentina.

The lectures and discussions, held on 15 and 16 June 2026, addressed cutting-edge applications in the field of nanomaterials science, covering both experimental and theoretical approaches. Under these aspects, nanoparticle synthesis and applications, were presented and described, allowing exciting scientific discussions and collaboration opportunities.

According to Prof. Cristiano Oliveira “the long-standing collaboration among Epple´s and Oliveira´s group within the CAPES-DAAD-Probral programme allowed the 2026 edition of this workshop by funding the travel expenses for the German partners”.

The event concluded with a panel session dedicated to research and funding opportunities offered by the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Research Foundation (DFG).

“The idea of bringing together organisations responsible for facilitating students’ post-doctoral or doctoral studies abroad was very interesting. This is not usually covered in scientific workshops. It was the first time I’d seen something like this. As a student, it’s always good to know about these opportunities and where to find them,” a participant stated in the evaluation form.
