The German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES) have published two calls for proposals for binational projects in two fields: production engineering and manufacturing technology, and law. Up to ten proposals will be selected (five per field); applications must be submitted by 15 April. The programme is exclusively for projects between Germany and Brazil. The coordinator on the German side must submit their application to the DFG, and the Brazilian coordinator to CAPES. Applications received in only one of the two countries will be rejected.

The collaboration must include regular project meetings, staff exchanges (researchers and PhD students) and other activities. The calls for proposals are being issued as part of the ‘Collaborative Research Initiative Programme’ (PIPC) run by CAPES and the DFG. The funding period is up to four years.

In the field of production engineering and manufacturing technology, projects should focus on production systems and manufacturing processes and take into account the application of advanced concepts, methods and technologies, artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as optimisation and simulation. In the field of law, the focus is on research into technology and law, digital law, artificial intelligence and law, data protection, democracy, consumer protection, criminal law and environmental law – though other fields may also be included.

Full details, including the application procedure and eligibility criteria, can be found on the DFG website: Production Engineering and Manufacturing Technology / Law.
