Diálogos de las Américas: Event on Science Diplomacy and Higher Education in America

The Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín invites you to attend the event “Diálogos de las Américas: The State of Scientific Diplomacy and Perspectives for Higher Education” on Tuesday, September 22, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (COT).

Science diplomacy has established itself as a strategy for strengthening international cooperation, promoting the exchange of knowledge, and jointly seeking solutions to the major challenges of our time. In this context, science, technology, innovation, and higher education play a crucial role in building relationships between countries, institutions, societies, and stakeholders that support the formation of cross-border networks and alliances. The dialogue event will take place as part of the 59th International Congress of Americanists (ICA 2027) and will discuss how science diplomacy and the internationalization of higher education can help deepen ties between America and other regions to promote new forms of cooperation, mobility, and knowledge exchange. With the participation of local and national stakeholders working in these areas, as well as renowned international institutions and organizations, the event will analyze the key challenges, opportunities, and prospects for strengthening the region’s scientific and academic cooperation in an international context.

The event is divided into two thematic blocks: The first addresses the current state of science diplomacy of the American continent, and the second focuses on higher education in America and international dialogue. The second thematic block also includes a presentation by the UA Ruhr, represented by Marcio Weichert. Weichert, Executive Director of the UA Ruhr Latin America Liaison Office, will also participate in the final panel, which will focus on the prospects for higher education in America and the role of scientific cooperation.
