The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF) programme, which aims to strengthen researcher mobility between Latin America and Europe, funds projects led by postdoctoral researchers who obtained their PhD no more than eight years ago and who wish to conduct research at an institution in the European Union (EU) – such as the universities of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) – or in associated countries. The programme is open to researchers from across Latin America. Applications for this year’s call, which has a total budget of €399 million, can be submitted until 9 September 2026.

The funding is open to all academic disciplines and covers, amongst other things, the salary at the host institution and any research costs incurred for up to two years. A mandatory requirement is that the project must be carried out in collaboration with a university or research centre in Europe.

The programme also allows for a second placement of up to one third of the standard fellowship duration at another organisation anywhere in the world. Furthermore, at the end of the project period, a placement of up to six months at a non-academic host institution in Europe (in EU Member States or associated countries) is possible.

Individual researchers based in Europe may also apply for mobility grants within EU countries. In addition, researchers in Europe may apply via the Global Fellowship funding scheme for a research stay of up to two years in a Latin American country (including Brazil) – fully funded by the European Commission.

The results are expected to be announced in February 2027, with the first projects scheduled to begin in May of the same year. Further information on the MSCA-PF and the application process can be found on the European Commission’s website.
