The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) and its Brazilian partner organisation, the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (Capes), have jointly published a call for applications for the Capes-Humboldt Research Fellowship Programme. The funding supports postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers in carrying out projects in Germany across all fields of research. The call offers Brazilian researchers an excellent opportunity to conduct research at the universities of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr).

For Call 25, applications will be accepted between 1 December 2025 and 29 May 2026 (until 5.00 pm BRT), with results scheduled for 24 November 2026 and the fellowship commencing between March and December 2027. Call 26, on the other hand, is open for applications from 1 June to 30 November 2026 (until 5 pm BRT), with results to be announced by 25 May 2027 and the fellowship commencing between September 2027 and May 2028.

To apply, you must be affiliated with a Brazilian higher education institution. The calls are aimed at early-career researchers who completed their PhD less than four years ago (postdoctoral category), as well as highly qualified researchers with a defined research profile whose PhD was completed less than 12 years ago (experienced researchers category).

The funding, which can last from six to 24 months for postdoctoral researchers and from six to 18 months for experienced researchers, includes a monthly stipend, a settlement allowance, airfares, assistance with taking out health insurance, a German language course if required, a grant for dependants, and a mobility allowance.

The documents required for the application, which are available on the Capes website, must be sent to both the Brazilian authority and the AvH. Further information on the application procedures can be found on the websites of Capes and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

The AvH regularly organises online information sessions to answer questions about the scholarship programme. The dates of the next seminars can be found in the DWIH São Paulo academic calendar.
